Different cyclists from all over the country gathered together for the biggest and the first-ever Mountain Bike National Championship, the NUVALI DIRT WEEKEND 2013. Everyone were ready to get dirty as they got on their bicycles and raced to the finish line. Nuvali, located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, known as an ideal venue for sports activities like marathons, fun runs, and wake-boarding hosted the said event.
The race was divided into three Union Cyclist International (UCI) stirring, moving and action-packed events: The Cross Country Olympics, Downhill-Individual, and Four Cross Race. Six Non-UCI registered mountain bike events were also featured namely NUVALI 30kms XC RACE, The Philippine Duathlon Series Championships, Kid's Championship Race, Fixie Events and the draining 24-Hour Race.
The Switzerland-based Union Cyclist International (UCI), a world-governing body for cycling, awards points to the winners for the said events. Earned points allow cycling enthusiasts to join important races like the SEAGAMES, Asian Games, Asian Championships.
Bikers deeply felt the support coming from their respective teammates, coaches and even from the crowd from the very beginning of the race up to the awarding ceremony. After the awarding ceremony, a tree-planting activity was held and various Dakila artists like Nityalila, Bayang Barrios and Noel Cabangon shared their music as their way of showing support, as well as furthering the cause of climate change awareness.
This event was not only held to showcase the future of professional cyclists in the country but is also an advocacy to help our brothers and sisters in the Visayas as the supporters, organizers and participants agreed to donate a percentage of the registration fee for the rehabilitation of their homes.
NUVALI DIRT WEEKEND 2013, a dirt-y event with a very clean purpose.
